I subscribed to this ML long ago, but forgot to conform. I wondered long time because no ML came to me. I made java applet that create only edge of Eternity. All pieces that appear in this applet are all those of Eternity Pieces. But combination is nearly infinite , so it is impossible to get solution pattern. I uploaded this applet to my HomePage. There are 30 calss files , about 300k in total, it will take long time to load applet. (21 class files are for setup for Eternity Pieces). http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~ishmnn/java/eternity_e.html ---------------------------------------------------- QUESTIONS name : Ishihama Yoshiaki city : Tokyo country : Japan email : ishmnn@cap.bekkoame.ne.jp homepage :http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~hq8y-ishm/ ------- Are you an active problem-solver, or just here out of general interest ? ------- I am making program thak solve this puzzle. ------- Do you hope that by listening to this list, you'll get the vital hint that'll make you win the prize ? ------- I hope so. ------- Do you own an Eternity puzzle ? ------- I purchased on WWW net last month, but it did not arrive to me yet. ------- What's your best attempt by hand ? ------- not tried by hand. ------- What's your best attempt by computer ? ------- 40 or 50 pieces , only edge of board. ------- What language / system / pc are you using ? ------- C++,java, Power Macintosh(7600/200)MacOS8.0. ------- What algorithms / heuristics do you use for Eternity (brute force, backtracking, genetic algothims, simulated annealing, SECRET) ? ------- very simple algorithm. ------- Did you type in all 209 pieces yourself ? ------- I am using that of Ed Peg Jr. ------- Did you try any simpler variations of Eternity ? ------- no. ------- Do you know some other interesting web-sites ? ------- no. ------- Other hobbies ? ------- GO(LGS 1d*). ------- Other programming projects ? ------- At this time no. ------- Are you willing to show the group your source code (after removing your secret functions) ? ------- I will show ,If it is only small part of code. ------- Any other stuff you like to add ? ------- My honest opinion is that , if you have anyother thing to do, you should not spend time in solving this puzzle. Not yet. However, my piece generator returns a number of 3232 pieces, which were constructed under the following rules : - no 30/330 degree angles - no weak connections (shorter than 1) - no parallel edges in a not-convex part > Obviously attempting to solve it this way would not make life easier because > you'd *have* to choose the correct 209 pieces out of the 1000 in order for > your solution to be similar to CMs. It won't help much, although it might be helpful to detect a few impossible piece placements earlier. tv -- Thomas Voigt | spock@berlin.snafu.de, tvoigt@comitatus.de ================================================================== I have a message to deliver to the cute people of the world...if you're cute, or maybe you're beautiful...there's MORE OF US UGLY MOTHERF#^&^#$ OUT THERE THAN YOU ARE!!
